BTS has achieved a significant career milestone by maintaining the No. 1 position on the Billboard 200 albums chart for a second consecutive week with their album Arirang. The achievement marks the first time any album from the K-pop group has held the top spot for more than one week.
The album’s continued dominance comes despite a competitive week that saw three new albums debut in the top five. Most notably, Arirang blocked the debut of Ye’s new album, Bully, which entered the chart at No. 2.
A Historic Run for Arirang
While BTS has previously secured six No. 1 albums throughout their career, each of those previous chart-toppers remained at the top for only a single week. The persistence of Arirang represents a shift in the group’s chart trajectory.
The album’s ability to hold the top spot into its second week was bolstered by a continued surge in sales. According to reports from NPR, the group sold an additional 114,000 copies during the second week of release.
This second-week performance was particularly significant because a large portion of the album’s initial first-week numbers were driven by sales, which typically do not carry over from week to week in the same volume.
Chart Dynamics and Competition
The path to No. 1 was less contested during the debut week of Arirang, where the primary competition was country artist Luke Combs, whose album The Way I Am debuted at No. 2. However, the second week presented a more formidable challenge with the release of Bully by Ye.
Despite the high profile of Ye’s new project, Arirang maintained its lead, denying one of hip-hop’s most prominent figures a new No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200.
Singles Performance
While the album remains the champion of the Billboard 200, the group’s performance on the singles chart has seen a slight shift. The BTS single Swim
has dropped one position to No. 2 on the Hot 100.
The top spot on the singles chart has been reclaimed by Ella Langley, whose country hit Choosin’ Texas
returned to No. 1.
Currently, Arirang is appearing on four different Billboard charts as it continues its run.
