Augusta, GA – – Republican Senate candidate Buddy Carter made a campaign stop in Augusta today, addressing members of the Richmond County Republican Party at their monthly breakfast meeting held at Aldersgate church.
Carter, currently a U.S. House representative for Georgia’s first congressional district, used the opportunity to outline his vision for the state and differentiate himself from incumbent Senator Jon Ossoff. He emphasized the need for a senator who will champion the interests of all Georgians, not just those in Atlanta.
“But let me tell you, the economic engine of the state of Georgia is not gonna be necessarily in Atlanta,” Carter said, according to reporting from WFXG. “It’s gonna be in Savannah, Augusta, Columbus. Those are the areas that we need to concentrate on. That’s the areas that we’re gonna have to have representation for. Yes, Atlanta is important. We all understand that it is important. We continue to make sure that it’s important, but we need to focus also on Augusta, Savannah, Columbus, those areas.”
The visit comes as Carter seeks to secure the Republican nomination and challenge Ossoff in the upcoming general election. He framed the race as a crucial opportunity for change in Washington D.C. And a chance to elect a senator who truly reflects Georgia’s values.
“Listen. What we need is a change in Washington DC, a change in the Senate,” Carter reportedly stated. “We need someone from the state of Georgia who’s gonna represent Georgia’s values. Right now, we don’t have it. Jon Ossoff does not represent the values of the state of Georgia. I have been supporting the president, and I’m gonna continue to support the president when I get into this Senate. That’s what Georgians are looking for.”
Carter highlighted several key priorities should he be elected to the Senate. Healthcare, particularly addressing prescription drug costs, was a central focus. He also spoke about the importance of energy policy and reforming healthcare to bring costs down.
“Healthcare will be a focus, particularly prescription drug devices,” Carter said. “That is very important, but making sure that we reform healthcare to bring healthcare costs down. That’s one of the main focuses. Also, concentrate on energy…”
The Richmond County Republican Party, as noted on their Facebook page, serves as the official party organization for Augusta, GA. The breakfast meeting provided a platform for Carter to connect directly with local party members and gauge their concerns.
According to WRDW, Carter has strong ties to the Augusta area, having grown up in the region. He stressed his commitment to representing the interests of rural Georgians, acknowledging the often-overlooked economic potential outside of Atlanta. “Well, certainly it’s important to understand there are two Georgias, there’s Atlanta and everywhere else,” Carter said.
The primary election is scheduled for , with the general election to follow on . Carter faces competition for the Republican nomination, including Mike Collins, while Ossoff is the incumbent seeking re-election.
