Buffalo Women Celebrate Success After 10-Week Empowerment Program
Women Celebrate Completion of Empowerment Program in Buffalo
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dozens of women in Buffalo completed a ten-week self-care program. They gathered to celebrate their success and share their experiences.
Kennetha Quarles, a participant, remarked, “It made me pause. It made me realize, I didn’t even know I needed it.” The participants engaged in activities that focused on improving their mental health and building supportive connections.
With a $10,000 grant from Roswell Park, the program can continue for women and also expand to include men.
Quarles highlighted the importance of community support, stating, “It puts the awareness in the community, and having that backing means the world.”
Crystal Ann Lott, another participant, expressed gratitude for the skills she gained: “I was mentally broken when I got here. Now I have tools and tricks for my mental health complications.” She emphasized the program’s focus on self-discovery.
Returning participant Sandi Dunlop praised the supportive environment. She said, “I came back because of the nature of the program, the openness of it and the healing process. It’s inspiring.”
Tamieka Johnson, the program organizer, shared her personal struggle with a recent stage three endometrial cancer diagnosis. She noted that the women in the program have come together to support one another during this challenging time.
Johnson expressed deep appreciation for the relationships formed, stating, “It means everything to me and I love all of them. We have a sisterhood now and we’re gonna keep going together.”
