Tribute to Fallen Pilots in Dolna Mitropolia
Today, the city of Dolna Mitropolia will pay its last respects to Lieutenant-Colonel Petko Dimitrov and Captain Vencislav Dunkin, the two pilots who tragically lost their lives near Graf Ignatievo.
Acting Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov, Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov, senior officers of the Bulgarian Army, soldiers, and colleagues will be in attendance to honor the memory of the fallen pilots.
The tragic incident occurred last Friday when a training fighter plane crashed while preparing for a demonstration flight at the 3rd air base near Graf Ignatievo. The two pilots from the 12th aviation base in Dolna Mitropolia were posthumously promoted to military rank.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, with Acting Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov announcing that the “black box” of the L-39ZA combat training aircraft will be analyzed at the manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic.
