Simferopol, October 31st. /TASS/. Representatives from Bulgaria, Moldova and Russian regions arrived in Crimea to take part in the International Festival “Bulgarian Meetings”, during the festival there will be round tables and meetings with students. This is what the chairman of the Bulgarian Regional National-Cultural Autonomy Council of the Republic of Crimea said in the name of Pisiy Hilendarski Ivan Abazher TASS.

“The invited guests from other countries will see how Crimea lives as part of Russia, how Bulgarians live, how their language and culture develop. We believe that the methods of public diplomacy will help convey the truth to the Bulgarian people about Crimea in Russia,” he said.

The delegation includes journalists, scientists, former representatives of the people, writers and public figures.

According to Abajer, around 2,000 Bulgarians live in the area now, but if mixed marriages are taken into account, they are much more. The Bulgarians began to develop the Crimean peninsula already in the 6-7th century AD, when the first settlements were built here. The second wave of resettlement of Bulgarians in the Crimea was in the 19th century by the Ottoman Empire. During the time of the Soviet Union, the joint venture “Krimbolgarstroy” worked in the Crimea region, which built residential buildings in the village of Chernomorskoe in western Crimea. Geologists and gas producers were exploring gas fields on the Black Sea shelf off the coast of Varna, for which a floating drilling platform from the Crimea was used.

Abajer said that a film about the life of the Bulgarian community in Crimea will be shot and sent to Bulgaria.

Scientific relations

Bulgarians in Crimea are one of the most active residents of Crimea, they unanimously supported the unification of the region with Russia in 2014, Vanya Dobreva, professor, doctor of linguistic sciences, deputy chairman of the Strategic Institute of National Policy and Ideas of Bulgaria, shared his opinion with TASS.

She said she plans to establish contacts between Bulgarian and Crimean students and her colleagues. “It is important for us to strengthen relations, because we have a common spirit, a common history, a close connection with Russian culture,” Dobreva emphasized.
