Burundi’s Agricultural Boom: How President Ndayishimiye’s Vision is Harvesting a Brighter Future
Agricultural Development in Burundi: A Key Pillar of President Ndayishimiye’s Policy
President Ndayishimiye has expressed his enthusiasm for the participation of investors in the agricultural sector, a vital component of his six-pillar policy. His vision, “Let every mouth have something to eat and every pocket some money,” underscores the importance of agriculture in driving economic growth and improving the lives of Burundians.
During his visits to various states, the President witnessed firsthand the determination of many Burundians to work in the agricultural sector. Notably, some individuals have shifted their focus from illegal mineral exploitation to agro-livestock farming, demonstrating the sector’s potential for growth and development.
Government Initiatives to Boost Agricultural Development
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Environment is implementing strategies to promote irrigation and mechanization in agriculture. Pigling centers and agricultural areas have been established in different regions across the country, providing essential resources and support to farmers.
To further enhance agricultural development, the government recognizes the need for access to inter-agricultural resources, including fertilizers, selected seeds, and pesticides. Additionally, the administration is promoting the policy of village consolidation to facilitate the accumulation of arable land, enabling farmers to increase their productivity and efficiency.
