Busted: Authorities Seize Over 1,000 ‘Larica’ Capsules in Daring Smuggling Operation
Bahrain Foils Attempt to Smuggle 1,260 Lyrica Capsules
A 21-year-old Asian man was caught attempting to smuggle over 1,000 capsules of the psychoactive substance “Lyrica” into Bahrain. The incident occurred when the man arrived at Bahrain International Airport from his home country.
Suspicious Behavior Raises Red Flags
Customs officers at the airport became suspicious of the man’s bag after passing it through the x-ray machine. The officer stopped the man and asked if he had anything to declare, but the man denied having any prohibited items. The man was then transferred to the red route for further inspection.
Discovery of Hidden Capsules
Upon careful examination of the man’s bags, 1,260 capsules were found hidden inside, divided into two black nylon bags. The capsules were cleverly concealed under the base fabric of the bag, making them difficult to detect.
Investigations Reveal Trafficking Scheme
Investigations revealed that the man was involved in a human trafficking scheme, trading in Lyrica tablets from his home country to sell in Bahrain. The man had been selling the tablets in the country, making a significant profit.
Confession and Charges
The man confessed to the Public Prosecution that he had indeed brought the Lyrica capsules into the country to sell and make a profit. He admitted to buying 90 boxes of the tablets in his home country and hiding them in his bag to avoid detection.
Court Ruling
The Public Prosecution charged the man with bringing psychotropic substances into the country without permission. The Supreme Court of Appeal has set a session for September 23 to consider the man’s appeal against his 5-year prison sentence and 3,000 dinar fine.
Lyrica: A Psychoactive Substance
Lyrica, also known as pregabalin, is a psychoactive substance used to treat epilepsy, anxiety, and nerve pain. However, it can also have serious side effects and is often abused for its euphoric effects.
