As the COVID-19 outbreak is in full swing, there were 70,000 new confirmed cases for the second day in the nationwide midterm count until 9:00 pm on the 19th. This is almost double the number compared to a week ago.

According to local governments, including Seoul, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in 17 cities and provinces across the country from 0 am to 9 pm on the same day was 73,301.

In the interim count, the number of new confirmed cases surged 2.81 times from the previous day, 2,804 more than the previous day’s count (74,497).

The number increased to 1.89 times the same time zone count (38,734 people) on the 12th, one week ago, and 3.94 times the count for the same time zone (18,606 people) on the 5th two weeks ago (18,606 people), respectively.

It is the highest figure in 12 weeks since April 26 (75,323 people) based on the interim count as of 9:00 pm on Tuesday.

Judging from the 13th, a week ago, the number of new confirmed cases in the same time period is 2.17 times → 1.99 times → 2.03 times → 1.96 times → 2.05 times → 1.97 times → 1.89 times compared to the previous week.

As the ‘doubling’ continues every day, there is a high concern that the peak of this trend will be advanced and the scale will be larger than expected.

As of 9 p.m. on the same day, there were 42,830 (58.4%) new confirmed cases in the metropolitan area and 3471 (41.6%) in non-metropolitan areas.

On the other hand, as the number of confirmed cases continues to increase rapidly, at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting held on the 20th, the government plans to secure additional beds by ordering the operation of the beds, expand the testing stations available on weekends, and stop visiting nursing hospitals. We plan to announce additional measures for the contents.
