Cabinet Approves Ticket Prices for “Yellow Line” as Official Opening Nears

BANGKOK – The Cabinet has given its nod to the ticket prices for the much-anticipated “Yellow Line” of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), as it gears up to commence operations on July 3.

Ticket Fare Regulations

On June 27, Mr. Anucha Burapachari, the Prime Minister’s Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs and the spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, made an official announcement, stating that the Council of Ministers had approved the draft regulations of the MRTA regarding fare prices for the Yellow Line (Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line and Chalong Line Ratchadham).

The draft regulations include the repeal of the existing regulations concerning common fare rates, as well as the introduction of new regulations regarding the determination of fare rates, fare collection methods, and exemptions for certain categories of passengers.

The ticket prices for the Yellow Line will range from a starting price of 15 baht to a maximum of 45 baht, with a total of 23 stations along the route.

Furthermore, the regulations outline criteria for discounts on system transfers, ensuring that passengers who transfer between the MRTA’s electric trains need only pay the entrance fee once. For instance, when transferring between the Blue Line and the Yellow Line at Lat Phrao Station, the entrance fee is collected only once.

The MRTA Board of Directors has also announced a specific timeframe for system transfers, such as the transfer from the Airport Rail Link to the MRT Yellow Line at Hua Mak Station, allowing passengers to enjoy a discounted entrance fee within 30 minutes.

The regulations also cover various travel promotion programs, including discounts for school children, students, and other groups, as well as marketing activities, monthly ticket sales, and special pricing for specific events and ceremonies.

Upcoming Launch of the MRT Yellow Line

The MRT Yellow Line, spanning from Lat Phrao to Samrong, is set to officially open for service on July 3. The 23-station route is expected to provide a much-needed transportation option for residents and commuters in the area.

Other Draft Regulations by the MRTA

In addition to the fare regulations for the Yellow Line, the MRTA has proposed four other draft regulations, which have also been approved by the MRTA Board of Directors. These regulations cover fare rates, exemptions, and transfer facilities for the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line (Blue Line) and the Chalong Ratchadham Line (Purple Line). The MRTA has also made provisions for setting rates and collecting fees for car and motorcycle parking at MRTA-owned parking facilities.

The Ministry of Transport has confirmed that all five draft regulations will come into effect on July 3, 2023, marking a significant milestone for the MRTA and its efforts to improve public transportation in Bangkok.
