Esperance of Tunisia tied 0-0 with its guest ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast – Saturday – in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the African Football Champions League.
The confrontation between the two teams will be renewed in the second leg of the quarter-finals next Saturday.
Esperance’s last victory over ASEC dates back to 2002, when it beat them 2-0 in the group stage of the Champions League, and since then it has lost to its Ivorian rival 3 times, compared to two draws.
The Tunisian champion qualified for this round, occupying second place in the third group with 11 points, winning 3 matches, drawing two and losing once, while ASEC was the surprise of the second group, which it topped with 11 points, winning 3, drawing twice and losing in one match.

Two days ago, Esperance witnessed the return of its players, Mohamed Ali Ben Hamouda and Bilal El Saheli, to group training after recovering from injury. Algerian Mohamed Amin Tougay and Togolese Roji also returned after completing their participation with their countries’ national teams. The Tunisian competent authorities granted Esperance full capacity for public attendance at Radès Stadium. Meanwhile, the club management warned of attempts by some fans to cause chaos during the match.
