Caitlin Clark’s Role on Hold: Injury Sidelines Fever Star
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark will miss Friday’s game against the dallas Wings due to a left groin injury, marking her second missed game in as many days. The injury prevents a highly anticipated first WNBA matchup between Clark and Paige Bueckers.
Fever coach Stephanie White previously described Clark’s injury status as “very much a day-to-day thing.”
Before this setback,Clark,23,had just returned from a left quad injury that sidelined her for five games. In her return against the New York Liberty on June 14, she scored 32 points. However, her shooting has been inconsistent, going 1-for-23 from 3-point range in her last three games. Her role as a key scorer is vital to the Fever’s success.
This season, the second-year guard is averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in nine starts.Clark is shooting 39.0% from the field and 29.5% from beyond the arc.The Fever recently fell below.500 after an 85-75 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks.
Clark’s performance in her rookie year, 2024-25, earned her Rookie of the Year, All-Star, and All-WNBA honors after a record-breaking career at Iowa.
What’s next
The Fever will need to adjust their strategy as Clark recovers, relying on other players to step up in her absence. The team hopes for a rapid recovery so Clark can resume her role on the court.
