A Disappointing Stint in Italy
After a largely unsuccessful two-year period, Belgian striker Divock origi, 30, is nearing a contract termination with Italian Serie A club AC Milan. Origi arrived at teh club in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer following his time with Liverpool, signing a four-year deal worth €4 million per season.
Though, the move failed to live up to expectations. in his time with Milan, Origi made only 10 starting appearances and scored a mere two goals, leading to a loan spell with Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League during the 2023-2024 season. His time in England also proved largely unproductive.
A Surreal Situation and Financial Resolution
Upon returning to Milan, the situation became increasingly unusual. Origi reportedly did not attend team convocations led initially by coach Daniele Bonera (who was later replaced by Massimo Oddo) and remained on the club’s payroll without participating in training or matches. He remained in Italy, however,to maintain the tax benefits associated with Italy’s “growth decree,” a program designed to incentivize employment.
Now, both AC Milan and Origi have agreed to dissolve the contract. Milan will reportedly cover less than half of the remaining salary owed to the player, bringing an end to a frustrating chapter for both parties.
