Cambodia Launches Five-Year Strategic Plan for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment

PHNOM PENH, April 8 (Xinhua) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Women’s Affairs on Monday launched a five-year strategic plan on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Ung Kantha Phawee, Minister He said the plan is a strategic plan for promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls in Cambodia between 2024 and 2028.

Kantha Bhawi said that the plan was designed to respond to the situation and evolution of society. This is specifically in line with the policy framework of the Cambodian government. It helps support the implementation of the Pentagonal Strategy, Phase One, on Cambodia’s Sustainable Development Goals Framework and United Nations (UN) commitments.

Kantha Bhawi added that the government will increase investments in gender equality and women’s empowerment in the areas of the economy, education, health and public leadership through the implementation of the strategic plan.

A report released by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in March. He noted that Cambodia has made excellent progress in promoting gender equality. It measures the proportion of women in parliament, education, the workforce and the maternal mortality ratio. which has an overall trend of improvement from 0.679 cases in 1990 to 0.461 cases in 2023

The report shows that Cambodia ranks 116 out of 170 countries on the 2023 Gender Inequality Index.

The strategic plan launch event was attended by around 500 people from all over the country. namely representatives from ministries, institutions, diplomats, civil society organizations National and international development partners Policy makers, researchers, academics and young people
