Canada shakes Belgium and sniffs a coup – Veekshanam

Doha: A parade of achievements at the FIFA World Cup. Canada left Belgium, the world’s second-ranked team, shaken in Group F. For a while, it seemed the Canadians had the win, but they conceded a goal and let Belgium narrowly pass. Belgium’s golden generation only won 1-0. Michy Batshuayi scored the winning goal in the 44th minute. Breakthrough runs from the front line rocked the stadium, but finishing mistakes held Canada back. Canada had 22 shots on the post but failed to find a single.
In the expected match on the field dominated by Belgium, Canada surprised with a quick attack in the first minutes. Canadian players were seen playing lightly against Belgium, who are second in the world. Canada squandered a golden opportunity to take the lead through a penalty kick in the eighth minute. Alphonso Davies, who took the kick, could not overcome Belgium’s star goalkeeper, Querta. Davies’ left foot kick to the right of the goal post was easily cleared by Quarta. In the 12th minute, Larya’s shot went wide. Afterwards, Canada defended Belgium with a sustained attack.
All Belgian movements were blocked by the Canadian wall. The only option left for Belgium was to break down Canada’s defense from long passes. So in the 44th minute, Michy Batshuayi took advantage of Olderworld’s long ball and put Belgium ahead. Despite trailing by one goal, Canada came back as winners in the fans’ minds.
