He’s known for his ferocious drumming in one of death metal’s most brutal bands, but Cannibal Corpse drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz has a surprising secret: he’s been a vegetarian for 22 years.

In a recent interview on the “and Now The Band” podcast, Mazurkiewicz opened up about his decision to ditch meat, revealing it stemmed from a growing sense of hypocrisy.

“I didn’t wanna eat the animals anymore,” he explained. “That was as easy as that. I grew up, of course, a meat eater. A Polish family living in Buffalo, it’s meat and potatoes. And there was nothing wrong with that; I loved it, of course. But then the older I got, I was just starting to, I guess, feel hypocritical, knowing that, man, I can never kill an animal to eat it, but yet I can turn my head and somebody else can do it for me and then I can enjoy it, eat it. And I was just really starting to get hypocritical in that view.”

Mazurkiewicz emphasized his belief that every animal deserves to live. “And if I can not eat one and eat any, then I’ll be happy with myself,” he said.

Surprisingly, the transition to vegetarianism was easier than he anticipated. “It was actually one of the easiest things I ever did, which was kind of crazy,” he admitted. “I thought it would be a little harder as you’re eating meat your whole life and all of a sudden you’re not. So, [I thought], ‘Man, it’s gonna be difficult. I gotta really…’ But it wasn’t. I was ready. Mentally, I was ready. So it was, like I said, probably one of the easiest things I ever did, actually.”

Mazurkiewicz’s commitment to a meat-free lifestyle is a testament to his personal values and a reminder that even the most intense metal musicians can embrace compassion and ethical choices.

Cannibal Corpse’s Corpsegrinder: Death Metal’s Unexpected health Nut

George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher, the guttural voice behind death metal legends Cannibal Corpse,is known for his ferocious stage presence and bone-rattling vocals. But behind the brutal facade lies a surprisingly healthy lifestyle, one that Fisher credits for his enduring stamina in the face of the genre’s demanding physicality.

in an exclusive interview, Fisher revealed that while Cannibal Corpse’s music is a sonic assault, his personal routine is anything but. “I still gotta do the normal things — exercise, stay hydrated,” he said. “I think that’s the key. That’s why maybe I feel like there was no transition or no change as I’ve really tried to do more in the other way.”

Fisher’s commitment to health extends beyond the stage. He recounted his prosperous journey of quitting soda, comparing it to the challenge of giving up smoking. “Maybe not as hard as smoking, of course, but that took a month of willpower,” he admitted. “I loved Dr. Pepper. That was my thing. And I was, like, ‘Okay, I’ve gotta stop. I know they’re not good for you. I just need to stop.'”

While he still enjoys coffee, Fisher emphasizes the importance of water as his primary beverage. “How is that not gonna be better for you when you’re just ingesting water all day as opposed to this soda that’s just…” he trailed off, shaking his head.

Fisher’s dedication to a healthy lifestyle is a testament to his commitment to longevity in a genre known for its intensity. It’s a reminder that even the most ferocious performers need to take care of themselves to keep delivering the sonic brutality that fans crave.

I’m gonna feel better as a person myself. And I’m hoping it’s gonna affect me [in a positive] way.I guess, I always think hypothetically, like what if I went in to my doctor and he goes, ‘Hey, you’re gonna die tomorrow if you don’t eat meat.’ Okay. Well, then maybe I would consider it — maybe, maybe consider it — as it’s causing me harm, I suppose. But if it’s not, and here I am still drumming hard…”
