There are reports of an invasion of dangerous caterpillars in our country. The pine beetle insect causes severe allergic reactions, suffocation, and sometimes even death.
It is dangerous not only for pets, but also for children, experts warn. For the past few weeks, there have been reports on social networks of owners who have lost their dogs after a fatal encounter with the dangerous caterpillar, it says “retro”.
A small child also suffered from an unexpected encounter with the insect in Kyustendil. His mother Neli Tsvetkova explained that her child stepped on the caterpillar. They were advised to wash his shoe, but that didn’t help and he developed a rash on his feet. The parents took their child to toxicology in “Pirogov”. The doctors explained to them that it was an allergic reaction.
The bodies of the pine beetle secrete two allergens, explained allergist Dr. Tihomir Mustakov. According to him, upon encountering the dangerous insect, half of the people develop an allergic reaction, and the other half – a toxic reaction. The specialist warns that if a pet licks the insect, it can lead to necrosis of its tongue, suffocation and death.
