Hyunjoo Han watched her mother, who was in her nineties, go through a difficult time losing her hearing, experiencing changes in her daily life, and broken relationships. At first I photographed my mother’s face, but she didn’t want to see her old lonely identity.
As a result, the author discovered objects in a “treasure box” that his mother no longer used and which was stored separately in a corner of her living room, and began photographing them.

“A new communication with my mother, who was in silence, began as I was organizing the old, worn-out objects that were crammed here and there in my mother’s room. As my mother looked at the old, worn-out objects, she began to unravel the stories connected to each item.” – Author’s note
The objects that my mother has had for a long time, such as the socks she wore at her wedding, an old iron, an old radio, a small but colorful quilt, a tape measure she used as a child and a hard-to-find abacus from these times are also a thread that connects distant memories.

Artist Han Hyeon-joo evoked her mother’s shining moments through her work and created a space to empathize and understand her mother’s inner world.
The exhibition can be visited for free from Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 to 21:00, and is closed on public holidays.
