Despite ending ride services, Careem plans to expand its technology development in Pakistan. careem Technologies, a spinout focused on building an “Everything App,” will continue to operate in the country. The company currently employs nearly 400 people in Pakistan across various functions, including engineering.
Sheikha emphasized Pakistan’s importance to Careem. “Pakistan is in Careem’s DNA,” he said, noting that the company’s first line of code was written there. He added that careem plans to expand its Falcon/NextGen program,which trains Pakistani university graduates on scalable systems.
Careem Care will remain available untill Sept. 18 to assist users with questions or pending issues. users with remaining balances in their Careem Wallet will receive instructions on how to reclaim their funds.
Uber, which owns Careem, ceased its ride-hailing app operations in pakistan in April 2024. At the time, Uber said Careem would continue to offer ride-hailing services across Pakistan.
