Actress Carrie Coon stepped out at Chicago’s Music Box Theater wearing a subdued heather gray midi dress paired with vibrant magenta pumps. The four-time-Emmy-nominee arrived for the Midwest premiere of her psychological thriller film The Liberation at the Chicago International Film Festival, where she was honored with an Artistic Achievement Award.
Receiving the Artistic Achievement Award in Chicago
Coon received the award on Saturday night for her portrayal of Rita Cooper, a Holocaust survivor who abandons her family to join a mysterious commune in Guy Nattiv’s upcoming film. The movie is scheduled to premiere in January 2027. During the event, Coon also participated in a screening and shared a personal list of her favorite local people, places, and things with the audience.

Balancing a Reserved Outfit With Vibrant Footwear
For the appearance, Coon wore a long-sleeved Magda Butrym wool-blend midi dress featuring a column silhouette, padded shoulders, crew neck, and asymmetrical waist ruching. She contrasted the conservative gray design with an eye-catching pair of Jude Kiss pointed-toe stiletto pumps in glossy magenta satin featuring a v-cut vamp. The footwear marked a distinct shift from her recent public appearances, where she favored neutral tones like the gray suede Gianvito Rossi pumps she wore in New York City and played-down silver shoes at the 2025 Emmy Awards.
Sharing Local Favorites at the Music Box Theater
Speaking to the crowd at the Music Box Theater after years of performing in local Steppenwolf Theater productions, Coon recited an extensive catalog of Chicago institutions, restaurants, and writers. Her enumerated favorites included Portillo’s, The Athenian Room, Chicago thin crust pizza, the Goodman Theater, Writers Theater, TimeLine Theater Company, Bucktown ramen spot Oiistar, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and local landmarks like Wrigley Field. She also referenced literary figures such as Studs Terkel, Saul Bellow, Gillian Flynn, Nelson Algren, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Lorraine Hansberry.

Oh my god, if you cheer at every single one we’re gonna be here all night.
Carrie Coon
