TORONTO—arizona diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll’s role as a key player was put in jeopardy Wednesday after a pitch struck his left hand during the eighth inning of an 8-1 loss to the toronto blue Jays. The Arizona Diamondbacks also continue to deal with an injury to catcher Gabriel Moreno.
Carroll,the 2023 national League Rookie of the Year,was hit by a 91 mph sinker from Toronto rookie Justin Bruihl. Although Carroll initially remained in the game to run the bases, Alek Thomas replaced him before the bottom of the inning, with Tim tawa shifting from center to right field.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said X-rays showed no fracture,revealing only a contusion. “It’s a very risky spot when you’re talking about that bone on the pinkie side,” Lovullo said. “It got a lot of meat, so we’re grateful for that.”
Carroll had tripled and scored Arizona’s lone run before the injury. He is batting .255 with 20 home runs and 44 RBIs this season.
