The trial has begun for Marcus monzo, 37, who is accused of murdering 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin in Hainault, east London, on April 30 of last year. Monzo faces charges related to a 20-minute rampage in which he allegedly killed Anjorin with a samurai sword and seriously injured four others. The incident has shocked the community, and the trial is expected to shed light on the events of that day.
Monzo, of West Beckton, Newham, also faces attempted murder charges for attacks on police officer Yasim mechem-Whitfield, IT engineer Henry De Los Rios Polina, Sindy Arias, and Donato Iwule, who was struck by Monzo’s van. He is further accused of causing grievous bodily harm to Arias and De Los Rios Polina with the sword, as well as possession of a bladed article.
Prosecutor Tom Little, KC, described the incident as a “brutal string of attacks with murderous intent” using a large sword. The court learned that a post-mortem examination revealed Anjorin died from a severe chopping injury to the neck, described as a near decapitation.
Before the rampage, Monzo allegedly killed and skinned his cat, and cannabis was found in his home.Witnesses claim he shouted, “Does anyone believe in God?” during the attacks.
The prosecutor stated that Daniel Anjorin “was slain by the defendant with the use of a sword,” adding, “The force used was extreme.”

Anjorin, remembered as a “true scholar” from a local Nigerian family, was on his way to school when the attack occurred. A GoFundMe campaign raised over £143,000 in his memory.
Iwule was the first victim, allegedly struck by Monzo’s van and then attacked with the sword. Officer Mechem-whitfield was also seriously injured while pursuing Monzo.

The attack continued at the home of Sindy Arias and Henry De Los Rios Polania, where monzo allegedly shouted, “Do you believe in God?” before attacking De Los Rios Polania. The crying of their four-year-old child reportedly stopped the attack.

During his arrest, Monzo reportedly said, “Allah, Allah will unite us all” and “God, God will reunite us all.”
