LOS ANGELES – A cloud-based platform may reduce errors in cataract surgery. Eyetelligence, a surgical planning tool, offers improved IOL power calculations and boosts safety in the operating room, according to Dr. mark C. Lobanoff.
Lobanoff, speaking at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting, presented cases where Eyetelligence, developed by Bausch + Lomb, helped avert mistakes. In one instance, the platform prevented the wrong patient from entering the OR. In another, it stopped the implantation of an incorrect IOL.
“Eyetelligence features a phone app that scans a QR code for each patient, ensuring the correct individual is in the room, thus preventing errors,” Lobanoff said.
