Catherine connolly, a vocal left-wing campaigner, has⁢ announced she has garnered the support of over 20 Oireachtas members,⁤ a key threshold for presidential candidates. “I was taken aback‌ by the support I received,” Connolly stated, speaking in Irish. “I wasn’t expecting that level of support from people across the country, in English and⁤ Irish.”

The‌ election to⁢ replace Michael D. Higgins, whose term concludes in the autumn, is anticipated to ⁢take place in late October ⁤or early November. Prospective candidates require the ⁤endorsement of 20 Oireachtas ‌members to appear on the ballot paper.
