Teresita Miranda, the professional dancer and second wife of Mexican actor and comedian Xavier López ‘Chabelo’, died of a sudden heart attack at the age of 88. Her death occurred on January 3, 2025, but the exact cause of death was kept private by the family until her son, Xavier López Miranda, revealed the details in an interview with TVNotas nearly two years later.
Sudden Death After Years Apart From Chabelo
The passing of Teresita Miranda caught her family entirely unawares. Xavier López Miranda spent time with his mother on the very day she died, noting that she presented no prior signs of illness or pain.
The family chose to maintain absolute hermetism regarding the medical reason for her passing following the initial public announcement. Singer Jorge ‘Coque’ Muñiz first broke the news of her death on social media in January 2025, remembering her as a woman he loved and admired.

Her son explained to TVNotas that his mother never stopped missing her late husband, who passed away in March 2023 from septic shock stemming from an acute abdomen. Fue súper inesperada, fue un infarto. ¡Se fue a alcanzar a mi papá!
Xavier López Miranda stated, expressing his belief that the two were reunited.
Ella lo extrañaba todos los días, estaba muy presente. Siempre pasa así en muchas familias, que 2 personas que estaban tan conectadas y amarradas, cuando se va una, al rato se va la otra, como que no pueden vivir una sin otra.

A Life in Dance and a Five-Decade Marriage
She secured work at Televicentro during the late 1950s and early 1960s, which is where she crossed paths with Xavier López.
Following his divorce, the two grew close through extended conversations, eventually marrying in 1969. The marriage spanned more than five decades and produced three sons: Óscar, Xavier, and Juan Gabriel. Unlike her husband, who anchored Mexican television for generations with En familia con Chabelo, Miranda maintained a notably low public profile and stayed away from media exposure throughout most of her life.

Xavier López Miranda Reflects on Losing Both Parents
The consecutive losses of both parents altered Xavier López Miranda’s perspective on his own place within the family structure. The producer reflected on the emotional weight of being part of the older generation after losing both mother and father in a span of less than two years.
Ha sido raro, lo extraño todos los días. El duelo lleva tiempo, pero ahí vamos,
he shared with TVNotas regarding his father. He added that losing both parents forces a rapid maturation: Cuando se van tus 2 padres es fuerte, porque sigues en la lista tú. Te tienes que acostumbrar. Te vuelves más responsable y adulto.
Aside from processing his grief, López Miranda continues his work as a theatrical producer with projects such as the play La clase at the Teatro Xola, while also working to secure production partners for a planned biographical series about his father’s life and career in Mexican entertainment.
