Danny Hatchard Reacts to Lee and Nancy Carter Surrogacy Twist

EastEnders actor Danny Hatchard has addressed the BBC soap’s shock baby plotline involving his character Lee Carter and his on-screen sister Nancy Carter, with scenes airing on BBC iPlayer before their TV broadcast. The storyline unfolded during the October 6 episode, which dropped early on BBC iPlayer before its scheduled evening broadcast on BBC One.

The Surprising Family Revelation on BBC One

The initial broadcast stunned viewers by revealing that Nancy Carter was pregnant with Lee Carter’s baby, leaving their mother, Linda Carter, in shock. However, subsequent scenes on BBC iPlayer quickly inverted expectations. Nancy explained to a disgusted Linda that the child is not biologically hers, but rather the result of a surrogacy arrangement designed to help Lee and his partner, Jess, start a family after struggling with fertility issues.

Danny Hatchard Responds to Fan Frenzy on TikTok

Following the initial broadcast, actor Danny Hatchard addressed the viewer reaction on TikTok by poking fun at fans reacting to the plot twist. In the video, Hatchard reads a book, checks his phone with a worried expression, and looks over his shoulders. The video’s caption read, So your sister’s having your baby? You’ve got some explaining to do – A. The post drew comparisons to the mystery-drama series Pretty Little Liars.

Lee Carter Keeps Family Secrets Close to Chest

While the surrogacy arrangement clarified the biological reality of the pregnancy, Lee Carter’s personal life remains complicated. He previously told Linda that Jess had left him, but a phone call received at the end of the episode contradicted that claim. Lee told an unseen Jess on the phone, Why are you calling me? I ain’t telling you where I am. Listen, my family and this baby are nothing to do with you anymore. Don’t call me again, Jess. EastEnders airs Monday through Thursday at 7:30 pm on BBC One and streams early on BBC iPlayer.
