Mexico City is grappling with the severe impact of intense rainfall,as widespread flooding has paralyzed several key areas, forcing⁤ residents to take drastic measures ‍and disrupting daily life. From submerged streets to overflowing rivers, the capital is experiencing significant challenges due to the relentless downpour.

Peripheral and Major Intersections Submerged

The⁤ city’s‍ vital infrastructure has not been spared. Even on the peripheral roads, at the height of Viaduct Tlalpan, the situation became so dire that some individuals where forced to climb onto the roofs of thier cars to escape the rising waters.

Marco Peláez reports that the intersection of Pichaco-Ajusco road with the peripheral experienced severe circulation⁢ disruptions due ⁣to the ample accumulation of water in low-lying areas.

Eastern and Southern Districts Hit Hardest

To the east, the Iztapalapa borough saw significant flooding,⁣ with the⁣ Cerro ⁣de la Estrella neighborhood reporting extensive waterlogging.

In Xochimilco, especially in areas bordering Tlalpan, the heavy precipitation led to the overflow of the San Buenaventura River. This event resulted in considerable water accumulation in surrounding neighborhoods, including ⁢the southern residential forest, Barley, and San Bartolo El Chico.

Northern Boroughs also Affected

The northern part of the city,⁤ specifically the⁣ Gustavo⁢ A. Madero borough, also faced severe consequences. A major flood occurred at the intersection of Adolfo López Mateos and Estado de⁤ México in Colonia La Palma, causing traffic‍ to be closed for several hours.

Red Alert Issued for Multiple Boroughs

Despite ⁢the Metrobús reporting the reopening of Line 1 ‍service to all its stations after 9⁤ PM, the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection has issued a red alert for several ‍boroughs. Tlalpan, coyoacán, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Tláhuac, and Xochimilco are expected to experience strong rains throughout ‍Thursday ⁣night and into Friday⁣ night, signaling that the challenges may persist.
