Police Confirm Body Found Near Frýdku-Místku Is Missing Woman

Czech police have confirmed that a body discovered in a forest near a local landfill in Frýdku-Místku is that of Jana Š., a 38-year-old mother of two who had been missing for nearly a month, Novinky.cz reported.

The search concluded when specialists matched DNA from the recovered remains to the missing woman. Tomáš Kužel, director of the Moravian-Silesian police, stated that the body was located using security camera footage spanning 2,000 hours. A specialized cadaver dog helped pinpoint the location, according to Martin Lichý, deputy director of the criminal police and investigation service. Officers found personal items at the site that the woman had been carrying when she left her home.

The Circumstances of the Disappearance

Jana Š. disappeared during the night between September 2 and September 3, which was her birthday. She was scheduled to leave for work the following morning but never arrived. Police received the missing person report on September 3 at 8:52 a.m., and patrol units, along with the municipal police in Frýdku-Místku, launched a search by 9:15 a.m.

Investigators noted that her departure from home was uncharacteristic. She left on foot carrying a backpack, taking three knives and a bicycle flashlight with her, while leaving behind her wallet, identification documents, and mobile phone. Police stated that the physical state of the body indicated she died on the day she went missing, though a judicial autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.

Police Examine Four Theories Regarding the Disappearance

Prior to the discovery of the body, police reported that the mother of two was in a poor psychological state and had sought professional help, though investigators found no negative relations within her family. According to regional criminal chiefs cited by iDNES.cz, investigators are examining four distinct working hypotheses regarding the disappearance. The theories include a voluntary departure to start a new life, a voluntary departure with the intent of self-harm, an unintended accident such as a traffic collision, or an intentional crime committed by an unknown perpetrator.

While a server report from tn.cz indicated that the woman died by suicide based on information allegedly obtained from the family, police emphasized that no official conclusion has been reached yet and final determinations await forensic pathology results.

“Today at 12 noon we learned from experts that the body we found yesterday during the search operation is the missing body.”
