Celebrating the 90s and a nice gesture from Bush

It’s all about humanity. Former President of the Slovak Republic Schuster sincerely appreciates people’s interest in him. “When a person is this age like me, it fits better than when I was young. I didn’t realize it that much at the time. Especially after 2000, when things were very bad for me and there was more talk of death than life, it is more valuable to me,” admits exclusively for Plus ONE DAY.

He has no problem talking to people even on the street. “Those who know me better, have the opportunity to talk to me, worked with me, must have seen that I always tried to be human and normal. I never played anything, it was always honest. I was uncomfortable at work, but I always went ahead to be a kind of role model for others.”

He is not afraid to leave the house

“I don’t have to be afraid anywhere – at home or on the street. And it’s very nice if people greet me sincerely in the square, especially if they are also young people who mention how their grandmother talks about me, for example. That is also why I try to write books, through which I want to pass on what I have acquired to the next generations.” he admits that he writes everything (despite the progress of technology) with pen on paper.

It is always about the relationship of man to man. We must not lose it

He has a clear opinion on the change that has occurred after several years: “Humanly, it was good at the turn of 1989 and 1990, when power was being transferred. Back then, bread was broken and, despite everything, we were able to treat each other decently and humanely even in the parliament. It is more difficult to walk from top to bottom than from bottom to top. That’s how it is in politics.” As he says, it is always necessary to remain a real person because “a lot of people think that if he comes up, he’ll be there forever. I always behaved the same way. Whether I was up or down. I have always belonged to other people, regardless of function. And I’ve always felt good around people.”
