Celebrity No. 1 Member of Parliament Hong Seong-woo dies after battling blood cancer

Former lawmaker Hong Seong-woo, who declared his candidacy for president as the first celebrity-turned-member of the National Assembly, passed away on the 2nd after battling blood cancer. age 80.

According to the bereaved family, Hong died after a battle with blood cancer at Jeju National University Hospital around 4:20 pm that day.

Born in Anseong, Gyeonggi-do, the deceased appeared in TBC’s drama ‘Daryl Son-in-law’ in 1974 and gained great popularity, recording a rating of 78%. In addition, she appeared in ‘Daughter of a Daily Serial Drama’ (1971) and ‘Three Sisters of a Daily Serial Drama’ (1971).

Afterwards, he was elected as an independent in the 5th district of Seoul (Dobong-gu) in 1978 and received attention as the first member of the National Assembly from a celebrity at the time. After that, he changed his party status to the Democratic Republican Party and the Democratic Justice Party, and served as a third-term member of the National Assembly.

The deceased, who had been active as a member of the People’s Power Party, announced that he would run for president in July.

He is survived by his wife, Soon-ok Heo, and three sons. The mortuary is in Room 5 on the 2nd basement floor of the funeral hall of Jeju National University Hospital, and the funeral is at 9:30 am on the 4th.
