Céline Dion made an emotional return to the stage on Sept. 12, 2026, performing before 30,000 fans at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, just outside Paris, according to reporting by France 24 and La Presse. The 58-year-old Canadian superstar launched a series of concerts, marking her return after more than six years away from the stage due to health struggles and the stiff-person syndrome diagnosis that forced her to step back from public life.

A Long-Awaited Return to the Paris Stage

Taking the stage roughly 50 minutes late, Dion wore a black bustier dress and immediately confronted the weight of her return, according to France 24. While singing her opening number, “On ne change pas,” the singer was visibly overwhelmed and had to pause briefly as tears interrupted her vocals. “Je m’étais promis de ne pas pleurer. Je ne tiens pas ma promesse,” Dion told the audience, as quoted by La Presse.

Confronting the Stiff-Person Syndrome Diagnosis

Dion’s return follows years of uncertainty surrounding her health. After canceling her last tour in March 2020 due to the pandemic, she revealed she was suffering from stiff-person syndrome, an incurable neurological disorder that was formally diagnosed in 2022 after roughly two decades of symptoms, per France 24 reporting. Addressing the crowd of more than 30,000 ticket holders, Dion opened up about her arduous path to recovery. According to La Presse, she noted that the journey was on a “route plus longue que prévu,” but explained that she learned to live with her condition. “J’ai appris à vivre avec cette fragilité. À force de la côtoyer, je l’ai apprivoisée. Et j’ai décidé d’en faire une force de vivre,” she told the audience.

Setlist and Concert Details

The two-and-a-half-hour concert featured a mix of 29 songs, balancing English-language hits with French classics and a surprise Italian number, according to La Presse. The first block of nine songs included major hits such as “Because You Loved Me,” “Encore un soir,” “The Power of Love,” “My Heart Will Go On,” and “Beauty and the Beast,” where background vocalist Barnev Valsaint stepped in for Peabo Bryson. La Presse noted that while Dion’s voice displayed less flexibility and power than before, she successfully sustained the demanding performance alongside her musical team, including guitarist Kaven Girouard and backing vocalists. The concerts in Nanterre follow weeks of preparations in Paris following her arrival from Las Vegas in late August, where fans gathered daily outside her hotel. Dion is set to continue her run of performances at the venue as part of her comeback.
