Celltrion, a Pfizer-edible corona treatment drug, makes a generic drug

Celltrion Group has secured a generic (generic) license for two oral COVID-19 treatments developed by global pharmaceutical companies Merck (MSD) and Pfizer.

As a result, Celltrion, the third company in the world to develop an antibody treatment for COVID-19, will also supply two types of edible treatment, thereby strengthening its portfolio of treatments in overseas markets.

According to Celltrion Group and others on the 20th, a license-in contract with the United Nations (UN) International Medicines Patent Pool for the production of generic drugs for ‘Nirmatrelvir and Ritonavir’, an edible Corona 19 treatment drug by Pfizer completed

The agreement follows Pfizer’s grant of a non-exclusive license to low- and middle-income countries through the MPP to expand access to edible COVID-19 treatments. Celltrion Group plans to develop and produce finished products by its affiliate Celltrion Pharmaceuticals, and Celltrion will supply them overseas.

Celltrion Group will use this contract as an opportunity to produce and supply Pfizer’s edible COVID-19 generic drug to low- and middle-income countries up to 95 countries.

Previously, Celltrion also secured a generic drug license for MSD’s COVID-19 treatment drug ‘Molupiravir’ in January.

In addition, Celltrion Group plans to respond to COVID-19 with a ‘two-track (development-supply)’ strategy while accelerating the development of its own inhaled cocktail COVID-19 antibody treatment.

Celltrion submitted a global phase 3 clinical trial plan (IND) to European countries for an inhaled cocktail COVID-19 treatment with the addition of ‘CT-P63’, a candidate material for the treatment of COVID-19 that has been confirmed for safety in the first phase of clinical trials.

An official from Celltrion Group said, “By securing a generic license for Pfizer’s edible COVID-19 treatment, we are starting to expand access to edible COVID-19 treatment worldwide.”
