Cha Yu-ram Returns to Professional Billiards Stage After Surprise Retirement

Cha Yu-ram makes a surprise return to the women’s professional billiards LPBA stage.

The Professional Billiards Association (PBA) announced in a press release on the 31st, “Cha Yu-ram will return to the LPBA tour two seasons after announcing his retirement.” Almost two years have passed since Cha Yu-ram entered politics, joining the People Power Party ahead of the local elections in June 2022.

Cha Yu-ram was active in the pocketball stage, including as a member of the national team at the 2006 Doha Asian Games and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, and switched to cushion 3 at the launch of professional billiards in 2019, making his debut in the ‘Shinhan Investment LPBA Championship’ (2nd round) in the 2019-20 season. After that, he played an active role on the professional stage for three seasons and reached the semifinals of the 2021-22 NH Nonghyup Card Championship and the semifinals of the 2022 LPBA SK Rent-a-Car World Championship. He also played a major role in the PBA team league as a member of the Welcome Savings Bank’s Wellbang Phoenix for two seasons, leading the team to its first championship in the 2021-22 season. After putting down the cue in May 2022, he has devoted himself to the development of professional billiards as a PBA public relations ambassador and a member of the PBA exclusive stadium promotion committee.

Regarding his return to the LPBA tour, Cha Yu-ram said, “I am delighted and happy to be able to stand on the professional billiards stage again two seasons after retiring in May 2022. For the past two years, I have been doing what I can as a young politician and the mother of a working politician. “I have no regrets or regrets because I did my best,” he said of his return.

Cha Yu-ram also said about his aspirations for the future, “Through my experience over the past two years, I felt that many politicians are better than me. I realized that what I did best was billiards, and that I was happiest when I was a billiards player. LPBA has now grown into the premier women’s professional billiards tour in the world. “I will focus on training and improving my performance with the mentality of a new debut, with the mentality I had when I first got the cue,” he said.

Cha Yu-ram’s comeback stage will be the ‘PBA-LPBA Welcome Savings Bank Wellbang Championship’ (8th game) starting on the 4th of next month. There are no rating points as he has not taken part in competitions in the last two seasons. Therefore, the PPQ (1st preliminary program) round of the competition starting on the 4th is expected to be a Cha Yu-male comeback match. The opponent for the return match will be decided according to the bracket published on the afternoon of the 1st of the next month.

In terms of participating in the team league, Welcome Savings Bank, the original team, has priority nomination rights for Cha Yu-ram. If the Welcome Savings Bank nominates Cha Yoo-ram in the ‘2024 PBA Team League Draft’ to be held before next season, he will be able to play in the team league as a Welcome Savings Bank player from the next season.
