Chad on High Alert: Can Deby’s Government Stem the Tide of Terror
Islamists from the Boko Haram group launched an attack against a forward base of the Chadian army in the Lake Chad region, not far from the border with Nigeria. According to the official toll, which is still tentative, around forty soldiers lost their lives during this attack, not counting the wounded who also numbered in the dozens. As a sign of the seriousness of the situation, the President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, all matters ending, went to the location yesterday, October 28, 2024, not only to reassure the populations of the area, but also to boost morale the fighters of the forces who are said to have failed to contain the attackers who came, who came in large numbers, took control of the base and left with a large load of arms and ammunition. As a good war leader, Deby-fils promised to track the attackers down to their toilets; and that is why the military campaign was called to be launched « Haskanite ” . Will he succeed? This is all the harm we wish for him, especially when we know that the Chadian army is known for its great feats of arms, especially in the fight against terrorism. We still remember the operation” Bohoma’s anger » was launched in 2020 following the attack that cost the lives of around a hundred soldiers on the Bohoma peninsula.
Deby-fils must work to deal the blow to the Boko Haram Islamist insurgents
Led by the late father Idriss Deby Itno, the operation was a real success; as it has made it possible to neutralize a number of terrorists. So much so that the Chadian army has not suffered a major attack against its positions since then. If he wants to do better than his late father, Deby-fils must roll up his sleeves… the trellis as long as he wants to give himself the chance to break the kidneys of the Jackal. Because, it must be remembered, Boko Haram, through this new attack, provides proof that it still has a tremendous capacity to cause harm. It is possible that his mood, in the face of the attack of the International Joint Force (MMF) which includes Cameroonian, Nigerien and Chadian soldiers, has been reduced. But the movement has just given proof that it can always hit where it is least expected.
That said, now that he has succeeded in establishing and consolidating his power, Deby-fils must work to deal a blow to the Islamist Boko Haram insurgents who intend to give him no quarter. To do this, it is up to him to know how to act as a unifier in order to get his countrymen to unite behind him in order to present a united front against the adversary.
