Chad’s presidential elections…the head of the military junta decides it in the first half, Sahara Media

The head of the military junta in Chad, Mohamed Idriss Déby Itno, won the first round of the presidential elections that took place this week, according to preliminary official results released Thursday evening.

The government electoral authority in Chad said that interim President Mohamed Idriss Deby won the presidential elections held on May 6.

According to the Electoral Commission, Déby received 61.3 percent of the voters’ votes.

Deby outperformed his Prime Minister, Soxé Massra, who received 18.53 percent of the votes.

These results remain unofficial pending approval by the Constitutional Council.

Masra had previously announced in a post on his Facebook page, Thursday morning, before the final results were announced, that he had achieved victory in the first half.

Deby had pledged to strengthen security and the rule of law and increase electricity production in the country when he cast his vote on Monday.
