Chance for Redemption: Han Dong-hee’s Opportunity in the Second Division

[OSEN=부산, 조형래 기자] For professional baseball player Han Dong-hee of the Lotte Giants, the second division seems narrow. And another chance came for Han Dong-hee.

Han Dong-hee played an active role with 1 hit (1 home run) and 2 RBI in 3 at-bats in the team’s 2nd game against KT Wiz held at Sangdong Stadium in Gimhae on the 7th.

Han Dong-hee recorded the go-ahead RBI in the first inning of the day, hitting a ground ball to shortstop in his first at-bat with runners on first and third with no outs. With a 2-1 lead and no runners on base and two outs in the bottom of the third inning, he hit a solo home run to left field against KT pitcher Choi Yong-jun.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, with one out and a runner on second base, Han Dong-hee hit a ground ball to the shortstop and finished his entire at-bat for the day. And on this day, the game ended with a rain-cold game in the top of the 7th inning.

Han Dong-hee prepared for the season more ambitiously than ever this year. I received guidance for about a week at the Kang Jeong-ho Academy located in Los Angeles, USA, and adjusted my hitting form to produce the most ideal and strong hitting balls. The pace was very good until the spring camp practice game.

He was supposed to join the Armed Forces Athletic Corps (Sangmu) on June 10, but Han Dong-hee wanted to leave feeling refreshed after completing two months of pre-enlistment. The decision was also great.

However, while swinging in an exhibition game, he was diagnosed with a partial tear of the internal oblique muscle and left the lineup. It was a result of Kim Tae-hyung’s coach, Han Dong-hee, and even the whole club failing. Nevertheless, Han Dong-hee was not discouraged and devoted himself to rehabilitation, and after recording 3 hits and 3 RBI, including 2 home runs, in the team’s second game against KT on the 18th of last month, he was immediately call the 1st team. There seemed to be hope for the Lotte batting team.

However, Han Dong-hee was unable to contribute to the team after being called up to the first team on the 19th. There were no extra hits, and he had 3 hits in 18 innings and a 1.67 batting average. Uncertainty was also highlighted in defence. In the end, Han Dong-hee was sent back to the second team on the 29th of last month, 10 days after being called up to the first team.

Lotte had not played in the second division for a while, and Han Dong-hee took part in the official game that day and showed his strength with a home run. It’s been 10 days since I was disqualified from Group 1.

Coincidentally, Son Ho-young, who had hit hard in Han Dong-hee’s position at third base and in the middle of the lineup, left the team due to pain in his right hamstring. Son Ho-young is expected to be out of the lineup for about 4 to 5 weeks due to a minor injury to his right wrist.

From Lotte’s point of view, Son Ho-young’s departure due to injury is painful, but it can be seen as another opportunity for Han Dong-hee. Will Han Dong-hee be able to finish the remaining season without regrets without missing the opportunity that will come again?
