Riot at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport: 100 Illegal Immigrants Clash with Police
A riot involving around 100 illegal immigrants from Mauritania broke out at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport on Sunday night, prompting a swift response from the Spanish National Police.
The disturbance began at approximately 19:00 in Hall 3 of Terminal 1, where a group of around 80 migrants, who were being held in the airport’s asylum hall, attempted to escape after learning that their applications to stay in Spain had been denied.
According to reports, the migrants smashed the doors of the hall and attempted to flee through the corridors, necessitating the intervention of riot control units to restore order.
The incident resulted in damage to airport facilities, highlighting concerns about security at the airport.
In response to the incident, the Spanish CNT has called for an increase in the number of officers to monitor checkpoints at Barajas Airport, citing the urgent need for the Ministry of the Interior to strengthen security presence at the location.
The National Police has also emphasized the need for improved working conditions, including increased financial compensation for officers working at Barajas Airport, as well as greater recognition and appreciation for their service.
