U.S. holds foreign ministers’ meeting to respond to Omicron… “Rapid international cooperation is needed”

[뉴욕=뉴스핌]Correspondent Kim Geun-cheol = The U.S. Department of State held a meeting of foreign ministers on the 21st (local time) for international cooperation in response to COVID-19 and Omicron mutations.

In a statement from the State Department on the same day, Tony Blincoln said that the secretary hosted a videoconference with foreign ministers and representatives of regional organizations from about 20 countries to strengthen international cooperation on COVID-19, the new mutation, Omicron.

The State Department introduced that the participants shared information for a global response to Omicron, and discussed regional impacts and future countermeasures.

Secretary Blincoln particularly emphasized the need for a swift response to Omicron and the need for international cooperation. He promised an additional $580 million in aid to international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) to combat COVID-19, and announced that the US’s humanitarian aid for COVID-19 reached $19.6 billion.
