Character.ai is like ChatGPT, except instead of connecting to an anonymous bot, the technology lets you chat with your favorite people, both fictional and non-fictional. Harry Potter, Super Mario, Beyoncé and more can be found on the site.
However, there is one robot that is used more than any other, and that is the Psychologist character. Apparently, by talking to this robot, you can seek answers to all the questions in your life. According to the BBC, a total of 78 million messages were shared with psychologists.
“I never wanted it to become popular or for other people to find it or use it as a tool,” says Sam Zaia, the man behind Psycho. “Then I started getting a lot of messages from people saying they were really touched by it and were using it as a source of comfort.
Zaia created this bot to talk to someone or someone while her friends were busy. I’m not sure if this is a good thing to exist, or an incredibly sad thing, given what it means for society at large and the state of mind we’re all in.
