Charlie Woods Commits to Florida State Golf for 2027 Class

Charlie Woods Commits to Florida State Golf Program

Charlie Woods, son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, has verbally committed to play golf at Florida State University and will join the Seminoles’ 2027 recruiting class. The commitment, announced on February 10, 2026, marks a significant milestone for the young golfer and a notable addition to Florida State’s program.

Woods, currently a junior at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, has rapidly ascended in the golf rankings. He currently stands at 21st in the Rolex American Junior Golf Association rankings, a dramatic rise from 604th prior to his first AJGA victory. His recent success includes winning the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May with a remarkable 54-hole total of 15-under par 201.

Beyond his individual achievements, Woods has also contributed to team success. He tied for ninth at the Boys Junior PGA Championship in July and finished 18th at the Rolex Tournament of Champions in November. In November, he played a key role in The Benjamin School’s capture of the Florida High School Athletic Association Class A state title, carding a 4-under 68 in the final round.

By choosing Florida State, Woods is charting a different collegiate path than his father, who played two seasons at Stanford before turning professional in August 1996. His sister, Sam Woods, is currently a freshman at Stanford.

Tiger Woods acknowledged the changes in the recruiting landscape, noting the impact of technology. “It’s been very different, the recruiting process,” he said at the Hero World Challenge in December. “Now, you have cellphones. We didn’t have cellphones. We would have written letters that would show up in the mailbox. It’s just very different how fast coaches can communicate with the family members and the player that they’re trying to recruit. It’s just a different world. Not saying it’s good or bad, it’s just different.”

Florida State’s golf program, led by coach Trey Jones who is entering his 23rd season, is already attracting top talent. The Seminoles have also received a commitment from Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, who currently holds the No. 1 ranking in the Rolex AJGA rankings.

Florida State finished as the runner-up at the 2024 NCAA Championships, a performance highlighted by Luke Clanton’s strong showing and his nomination for both the Fred Haskins and Jack Nicklaus Awards, recognizing the top collegiate golfers. Coach Jones has a proven track record, having also coached PGA Tour stars Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger.
