Walker was the third-ranked candidate from her party, making her victory an unexpected outcome. Australia’s preferential voting system, which allows voters to rank candidates, ultimately secured her the seat. The Australian Electoral Commission officially declared the results on May 27.
walker is set to begin her six-year term in july. She acknowledged the challenges ahead, telling the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that she feels “a lot of pressure.”
“There’s a few feelings. Obviously, there’s a lot of pressure,” Walker saeid.
