chatgpt Faces Outages, Slow Responses; OpenAI Silent
ChatGPT users reported widespread operational issues, including slow response times and service blockages, beginning teh morning of April 9. The volume of complaints surged, particularly in major metropolitan areas. As of midday, OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT, had not released an official statement addressing the situation.
Reports of ChatGPT Issues Spike Across Italy
The precise cause of the disruption remains unclear. OpenAI has yet to issue any formal announcements regarding the problems. Reports of malfunctions have surfaced across Italy, from Turin to Venice.
Starting around 11 a.m. local time, users began taking to social media and online forums to report difficulties with ChatGPT. The chatbot exhibited sluggish performance and, in some instances, complete unresponsiveness. Downdetector, a website that monitors online service outages, registered a peak of 583 user reports. One user lamented, “Impossible to load the history, and I cannot get answers to my questions… Is anyone else experiencing this?” Another added, “The page is fully frozen.”
Server-Side Problems Suspected
While OpenAI has not confirmed the source of the issues, speculation points to potential server-side problems. Users in cities including Turin, Milan, Rome, naples, Perugia, Venice, and Bologna have reported disruptions. Moreover, reports on X (formerly Twitter) indicate that incidents are not limited to Italy, with users abroad also encountering difficulties. Many users are seeing an error message within the ChatGPT interface stating: “something went wrong during generation of the answer. If the problem persists, please contact our assistance service.”
Experts suggest the problem likely resides on OpenAI’s servers, requiring users to wait for the company to restore service. Simply disconnecting and reconnecting or restarting devices is unlikely to resolve the issue.Historically,OpenAI has acted swiftly to address such breakdowns. Users are advised to monitor OpenAI’s official communication channels for updates.
