Chelsea Could Go Out Of Business If Roman Abramovich Faces Sanctions

Leading English economist has warned that Chelsea could face a major crisis if the British government decides to take action against Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. The warning comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is under pressure from ministers and parliamentary officials to seize or freeze Chelsea owner Abromovic’s assets in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Abromovic came to prominence in 2019 after allegations of corruption surfaced. It has been confirmed that precautionary measures will be taken against those close to Putin, but no action has yet been taken against Abramovich. But Kieran Maguire, a football finance lecturer at the University of Liverpool, says that if that happens, it will affect Abromovic and Chelsea’s progress.

Maguire says he feels he is falling victim to Putin’s actions and will try to get a loan from Abromovic, thereby arguing that the English government is to blame for the collapse of the Chelsea football club, which is a crisis for the UK government. Maguire added that the British government would face a lot of accusations if it went this route and that the government would not do things that would upset football fans, adding that Chelsea’s legal fraternity might look into all possible options.

“If government assets are tied up and Chelsea seized, it will be the last nail in the coffin for Abramovich,” said a lecturer in the finance department at the University of Sheffield. Rob Wilson confirmed this analysis. He added that Abramovich’s attempt to leave the club would create a major problem for the club and that no one would be willing to buy Chelsea for 2 billion.

Meanwhile, there are reports that those interested in buying Chelsea are monitoring the situation. Chelsea coach Thomas Touchell has also expressed concern over the current situation. Ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final on Sunday, the German coach said that everyone, including the players, was worried about the conditions at the club.
