Chelsea Targeting Napoli’s Victor Osimhen for Mega Transfer Deal

Chelsea Sets Sights on Victor Osimhen

By Jongheon Oh

Reports from the British Telegraph indicate that Chelsea has identified Victor Osimhen as their top recruitment target. According to the Telegraph, the club is planning to make a substantial investment in the Nigerian striker, with an expected transfer fee of over 100 million pounds (about 163.8 billion won).

Osimhen, who joined Napoli in 2020, has quickly established himself as a key player for the Italian club, earning praise for his consistent scoring in Serie A. Last season, he emerged as the league’s top scorer with 26 goals, propelling Napoli to the top of the standings for the first time in 33 years.

Rumors and Controversies

Despite his success, Osimhen has been the subject of transfer rumors, with several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), expressing interest in the striker. However, negotiations have not progressed beyond the initial stages.

While Napoli has seen changes in its coaching staff and management, Osimhen continues to deliver on the pitch, with 6 goals and 1 assist in 9 league games this season.

Chelsea’s Struggles

Chelsea’s pursuit of Osimhen comes as the team seeks to address its underwhelming performance in the current season. With the club currently sitting in 10th place in the league, Chelsea is looking to bolster its attacking options to improve their standing.

The potential addition of Osimhen could provide a much-needed boost to Chelsea’s offense, with the Nigerian striker viewed as a solution to the team’s scoring woes.

Chelsea appear to have identified Victor Osimhen as their main target.

The British Telegraph reported on the 27th (Korea time), “Chelsea plans to recruit Osimhen. He is manager Mauricio Pochettino’s main recruitment target. Osimhen’s price is expected to be over 100 million pounds (about 163.8 billion won).” The transfer fee may be more than the 106.8 million pounds (about 175 billion won) recorded by Chelsea when signing Enzo Fernandez,” the report said.

Osimhen joined Napoli in 2020. He quickly developed into a key striker and received positive reviews by consistently scoring double-digit scores in Italy’s Serie A. Last season, he was also the league’s top scorer, scoring 26 goals. Napoli rose to the top of Serie A for the first time in 33 years thanks to Osimhen’s performance.

After that, Osimhen was linked with several teams, including Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). However, it did not progress to the specific negotiation stage. Many key players stayed, including Osimhen, Hvicha Kvarachelia, Piotr Zielinski, and Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

But there have also been departures. Key centre-back Kim Min-jae transferred to Bayern Munich. Above all, coach Luciano Spalletti, who led the team to the championship, laid down his baton, and general manager Cristiano Giuntuli also left.

Coach Rudy Garcia was appointed as Coach Spalletti’s successor. However, Napoli’s performance was below expectations. Coach Garcia eventually left, and new coach Walter Macari was recently appointed. Napoli are currently in 4th place in Serie A with 7 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses in 13 games.

Despite many variables, Osimhen is doing his part with 6 goals and 1 assist in 9 league games. There was controversy in the middle as well. Osimhen missed crucial opportunities, such as missing a penalty against Bologna at the end of September. Accordingly, Coach Garcia made a change, and Osimhen was caught expressing his displeasure.

The incident ended with a quick apology from Osimhen. However, a little later, a video mocking Osimhen’s missed penalty and a racist video were posted on Napoli’s official account. Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, also expressed his dissatisfaction with the Napoli club.

Meanwhile, news has come that Chelsea are looking to sign Osimhen. Chelsea are currently performing poorly this season, only in 10th place in the league. The team’s top scorer in the league is Nicholas Jackson (6 goals). However, excluding the hat trick he scored against Tottenham Hotspur, he has 3 goals in 11 games. Accordingly, Chelsea are targeting Osimhen to strengthen their attack.
