Chery showcased the QQ3 EV during the opening media preview day of Auto China 2026 in Beijing. The electric vehicle, which recently made its debut in the Chinese domestic market, is part of a broader strategy to expand the automaker’s presence in Southeast Asia.

The vehicle is already known in the ASEAN region as the Chery Q, having made its regional debut in March 2026 at the Bangkok International Motor Show. Following that appearance, Chery Malaysia has indicated that the Q will be launched in the Malaysian market sometime in early 2027.

Market Positioning and Competition

Upon its arrival in Malaysia, the Chery Q is expected to compete with other city EVs, specifically the Wuling Bingo and the Proton eMas 5. To ensure the vehicle remains price-competitive in the local market, Chery is expected to utilize local assembly.

Despite its classification as a city car, the Q offers a relatively large footprint compared to its peers. It measures 4,195 mm in length, 1,811 mm in width, and 1,573 mm in height. In a direct comparison with the Proton eMas 5, the Q is 60 mm longer, six millimetres wider, and seven millimetres lower.

The vehicle also features a 2,700 mm wheelbase, which is 50 mm longer than that of the eMas 5.

Design and Platform

The QQ3, or Q, is built on the automaker’s T12 platform. Its exterior styling aligns with current trends for Chinese city EVs, featuring rounded head- and taillights equipped with dual horizontal light guides.

Additional design elements include flush pull-up door handles and a cut D-pillar, which creates a floating roof aesthetic.

Technical Specifications

The powertrain consists of a single rear motor providing rear-wheel drive. Chery offers the vehicle in two distinct output and battery configurations.

  • The first configuration delivers 79 PS (78 hp, or 58 kW) and 90 Nm of torque. This version is powered by a 29.48 kWh LFP battery, providing a range of 310 km based on the CLTC cycle, which translates to approximately 250 km on the WLTP cycle.
  • The second configuration provides a higher output of 122 PS (121 hp, or 90 kW) and 115 Nm of torque, paired with a larger battery.
