Cheyenne Braces for Wind, Warming Trend, and Potential Weekend Showers

Cheyenne, Wyoming, residents are experiencing a shift in weather patterns, moving from relatively mild conditions to a period of strong winds and the possibility of both rain and snow later this week. According to the National Weather Service station in Cheyenne, south winds between 5 and 10 mph are contributing to the wind chill, potentially dropping temperatures to as low as 0 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit at times. Overnight, skies will become partly cloudy with a low around 18 degrees. Winds will shift westerly after midnight, maintaining a speed of around 10 mph.

Monday promises a warmer day, with a high near 57 degrees Fahrenheit under mostly sunny skies. However, this warmth will be accompanied by increasingly brisk winds, reaching around 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Monday night will see mostly cloudy conditions and a low around 34 degrees. The winds are expected to strengthen further, blowing from the west at 15-20 mph with gusts potentially reaching 35 mph.

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts that winds will continue to increase after Monday. While specific maximum wind speeds for later in the week haven’t been determined, Tuesday could experience gusts as high as 50 mph. The windy conditions are expected to persist throughout the remainder of the week.

Precipitation is expected to return around Tuesday night, with showers potentially transitioning between rain and snow. Both rain and snow are likely to be regular possibilities through at least Saturday, according to the NWS.

Elsewhere in Wyoming, conditions vary. Casper is experiencing mostly sunny conditions today with a high near 44 and partly cloudy skies overnight with a low near 28. Wind gusts could reach 21 mph. Riverton is gradually becoming sunny with a high near 42 and increasing clouds overnight with a low near 15. Shoshoni is also gradually becoming sunny today with a high near 41 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 17.

In the southwest, Evanston is sunny today with a high near 42 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 18. Green River is also sunny today with a high near 43 and mostly cloudy overnight with a low near 18. Cokeville is sunny today with a high near 38 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 11.

Western Wyoming is seeing similar conditions. Pinedale is sunny today with a high near 37 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 11. Alpine is sunny today with a high near 41 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 16. Big Piney is sunny today with a high near 38 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 7.

The northwest of the state is also experiencing sunny conditions. Dubois is sunny today with a high near 43 and wind gusts as high as 24 mph. Mostly clear skies are expected overnight with a low near 24. Jackson is sunny today with a high near 41 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 15. Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park is sunny today with a high near 37 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 12.

In the Bighorn Basin, Thermopolis is gradually becoming sunny today with a high near 44 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 19. Cody is gradually becoming sunny today with a high near 47 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 27. Lovell is mostly sunny today with a high near 44 and partly cloudy overnight with a low near 19.

North Central Wyoming is also seeing improving conditions. Buffalo is gradually becoming sunny today with a high near 41 and mostly clear overnight with a low near 26.

Residents are advised to prepare for fluctuating conditions and potential travel disruptions as the week progresses. The return of precipitation and sustained high winds will likely impact outdoor activities and transportation.
