Chill Out: Government Cracks Down on Ration Cardholders with Air Conditioners
Ration Card Updates: Eligibility Criteria and Screening Process
The Ministry of Supply is working to ensure that support reaches those who deserve it, resulting in a significant reduction in ration card holders. After removing 10 million ineligible beneficiaries, the number of ration card holders has decreased from 70 million to 60 million.
Eligibility Criteria for Ration Card Holders
According to Dr. Ayman Mahsab, Member of the House of Representatives and Rapporteur of the Committee on Investment Priorities in the National Dialogue, the eligibility criteria for ration card holders include factors such as salary, insurance status, electricity consumption, family size, car ownership, and property ownership.
Dr. Mahsab emphasized that the final decision on the application of cash assistance will not be taken without the consensus of all political forces in the society through the national dialogue.
Screening Process for Ration Card Holders
Samir Sabri, Rapporteur of the Private, Domestic, and Foreign Investment Committee of the National Dialogue, stated that a thorough screening of all ration card holders will be conducted in the coming period. This is necessary as not all 60 million ration card holders are eligible for support.

Sabri explained that the screening process will consider factors such as air conditioning ownership, internet usage, and the number of mobile phones in each household.
Surprises on New Ration Card Deletion Criteria
Sabri revealed that the new deletion criteria for ration cards will include factors such as increased electricity consumption, internet usage, and the number of mobile phones in each household.

He stressed that the ration cards have been screened multiple times in the past years, resulting in a reduction from 70 million to 60 million cards.
Notification and Complaint Process
Sabri added that individuals who are removed from the supply system will receive a notification stating that they do not meet the eligibility criteria for support. They will have a month or two to file a complaint if the information is incorrect.

Sabri assured citizens that the issue of ration cards and conversion to cash assistance is being studied carefully, with the aim of increasing the standard of living for citizens.
