Remarkable Results Achieved in the Recycling and Processing System for Electrical and Electronic Waste Products

The National Development and Reform Commission recently conducted a special press conference on the advancements made in the construction of a recycling and processing system for electrical and electronic waste products in China. Song Changqing, a second-level inspector of the Environmental Protection Department, highlighted the remarkable achievements resulting from the collaborative efforts of local governments, relevant departments, and the entire industry.

Flourishing Growth in Recycling Outlets

Since 2022, major cities in China have witnessed the establishment of approximately 150,000 recycling outlets dedicated to renewable resources. This surge in recycling facilities has been made possible through the successful implementation of the “Internet + recycling” format. Moreover, there are now 109 qualified processing companies with an impressive annual standard processing capacity of over 160 million units.

Significant Increase in Standard Dismantling Volume

In 2022, the annual standard disassembly volume of “four machines and one brain” is set to reach 84 million units, marking a staggering 525% increase since the implementation of the fund system. The standard dismantling rate has also soared, with a remarkable 44-percentage-point increase compared to the statistics from 2012.

Going forward, the National Development and Reform Commission plans to collaborate with relevant departments to further enhance the waste policy system. This includes increasing financial support and strengthening the recycling system for waste electrical and electronic products. Efforts will also be focused on improving recycling models, raising the level of dismantling and utilization, and fostering the high-quality development of the industry.
