When some Western countries and international organizations raised concerns about the possibility of Chinese meat containing banned substances and cell phone hacking to participants in the Beijing Winter Olympics, China strongly refuted.

A spokesperson for the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee said in an interview with the state-run Xinhua News Agency on the 18th, “We attach great importance to food safety, and all meat meets food safety standards.” We ensure the safety of our players by strictly managing them according to national standards,” he said.

However, he added, “As international competitions require special tests from athletes, athletes should be careful about their food and drug use.”

The spokesperson also dismissed the possibility of cell phone hacking, saying that all actions of the Olympic organizing committee strictly comply with relevant laws, including China’s personal information protection law.

He explained that ‘My 2022’, a mobile phone app installed by Olympic participants, is a multi-purpose mobile app that delivers weather, food, lodging, transportation, as well as game-related news.

“This app is necessary for quarantine, and a similar app was used during the Tokyo Olympics,” said a spokesperson.

Earlier, Britain and the Netherlands decided to provide temporary mobile phones to their national teams, citing concerns that Chinese authorities might hack their mobile phones during the Olympics.

In addition, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) raised the possibility that the steroid clenbuterol, a banned substance, contained in Chinese meat, and recommended that participants of the Winter Olympics be careful when eating Chinese meat.
