“The credibility of the US intelligence authorities has already been verified with the Iraq and Ukraine issue”
BEIJING (Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Jin-bang = U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blincoln told the United Nations Security Council on the 17th (local time) that the U.S. intelligence service judged that “Russia is preparing to launch an attack on Ukraine in the next few days.” The Chinese government criticized the introduction of the ‘war smoke bomb’.
At a regular briefing on the 18th (local time), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Wang Wenbin (汪文斌) said, “The credibility of the US intelligence authorities has already been verified in Iraq and Ukraine issues.”
“What I want to emphasize is that the Ukraine issue cannot be resolved politically by instigating ‘war smoke bombs’, sanctions and pressure, or group-to-group confrontation.”
“Countries should properly address the reasonable security concerns of countries in the region, including Russia, through dialogue and negotiations based on the New Minsk Agreement,” he added.
The New Minsk Agreement refers to an agreement signed by the Ukrainian government in 2015 with pro-Russian separatist rebels in the Donbas region of their own country, which declared secession and independence.
It is evaluated as a content guaranteeing the maintenance of Russia’s influence in Ukraine, as it aims to recognize the special status including autonomy of the Donbas region.
