Launch of AI-GeoMapping and AI-OreSeeking in Tianjin
The two systems made their global debut at the 28th China Mining Conference and Exhibition held in Tianjin in northern China. Released by the China Geological Survey under China’s Ministry of Natural Resources, the software packages aim to bring automated efficiency to geological workflows that previously relied heavily on manual data gathering and expert analysis. AI-GeoMapping focuses on regional geological surveys by combining big data, artificial intelligence, and modern information technology to process multi-source data collected from space, the air, and the Earth’s surface.
According to project details, AI-GeoMapping supports the entire mapping process from initial research to final cartographic production. The system achieves an overall structural identification accuracy exceeding 90 percent while boosting data processing and analysis efficiency by more than 50 percent. Testing has covered nearly 100 map sheets at a 1:50,000 scale across provincial regions including Qinghai, Xizang, Xinjiang, and Fujian. Beyond domestic projects, the mapping tool has also been deployed in international markets such as Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Laos.
Trimming Mineral Exploration Timelines
While the mapping tool targets regional surveys, the second system, AI-OreSeeking, is built specifically for mineral discovery. The software integrates geoscience data, geological knowledge bases, exploration models, and more than 200 processing algorithms to automate the search for valuable deposits. It ingests data covering geology, gravity, magnetism, electricity, geochemistry, and remote sensing to extract mineralization clues and generate three-dimensional structural models.
Comparative testing highlights a dramatic shift in operational timelines. In an evaluation focusing on gold exploration in the western Qinling region, AI-OreSeeking processed multi-source data across 32 map sheets at a 1:50,000 scale in just five days. The system successfully identified two gold exploration targets and four prospective areas for follow-up investigation, cutting a process that traditionally takes up to half a year down to a single week.

Operational Flexibility and Target Minerals
The technology does not completely replace human geologists. Users can operate the software across three distinct modes: expert-guided, fully automated, or human-AI collaboration. This flexibility allows specialists to refine targets and determine exact locations for subsequent field work and drilling.
China Geological Survey reports that the technology extends beyond gold to support the exploration of iron, copper, aluminium, lithium, cobalt, nickel, lead, zinc, chromium, potassium, and uranium. Both systems have undergone testing across more than 100 projects in over 10 provincial-level regions in China, demonstrating how advanced pattern recognition is reshaping traditional resource assessment while still requiring final verification on the ground.
